What the 2013 FDA determination says
In a 2013 Federal Register determination, FDA concluded that specified GEREF (sermorelin acetate) injection products were not withdrawn from sale for reasons of safety or effectiveness. It described the products as discontinued and discussed the consequences for potential generic applications.
That determination answered a narrow regulatory question. It did not approve anti-aging, performance, or general wellness uses. It should not be summarized as 'every sermorelin product is FDA approved.'

Ask about what would be supplied now
Ask the clinician or pharmacy to identify the current finished product and provide its approval record, if approval is claimed. FDA's drug-information resources distinguish approval records from other types of listing information.
A compounded preparation is a separate product situation. FDA explains that compounded medicines are not FDA approved; a historical ingredient association does not remove that distinction.

Evaluate the proposed use separately
Ask which human evidence supports the specific outcome being discussed and how that evidence relates to your circumstances. Improved laboratory markers, recovery claims, and long-term health outcomes are different questions.
For an approved medicine used beyond its labeling, FDA explains that approval has not established safety and effectiveness for that unapproved use. Do not let an undated historical claim stand in for an explanation of present uncertainty.
